Hunter Creek Bait pro staffer, Steve "Cheeseburger" Roberts, finished 12th at the 2006 CITGO Bassmaster Open at Smith Mtn. Lake, Va. held Oct. 26 - 28. Day 1 proved very tough for him, as he blanked that day. He made a beautiful comeback on day 2 with a limit of 5 fish weighing 17lbs.,15oz. He also had big fish for that day with a 7 pounder.
This bag was the biggest five fish limit of the entire tournament. Day 3 proved alittle tough once again with a bag of 2 fish tipping the scales at 5lbs., 1oz. 12th place was worth $3160 plus $1000 for his 2nd day big fish. Two other top 50 boaters fished the "Cheeseburger" jig. John Cole of Buena Vista, Va. tied with Roberts at 12th place and Jon Moss of Danville, Va. finished 36th. Moss had a hog on the jig that broke off for him. He figured it had to be at least 7 or 8 lbs. if not bigger. That would have been a big hit at the weigh-in for sure! |
